CELEBRATE STAR-SPANGLED TRADITION AT MOUNT WASHINGTON RESORT
Fireworks Display at Bretton Woods is Scheduled for Saturday, July 5, 2008
BRETTON WOODS, NH, June 30, 2008 – New Hampshire’s grandest all-American family Star-Spangled Celebration will be held at Mount Washington Resort on Saturday July 5, 2008. Live entertainment, great food, endless games, family fun and the best fireworks in New England will all take place in the Bretton Woods base area, providing an expanded venue for this “Fourth of July” tradition in New Hampshire.
Gates to the Star-Spangled Celebration at Bretton Woods will swing open at 2:30pm on Saturday, July 5th, and the price of admission is $20 per vehicle/carload. The day’s Celebration includes a carnival atmosphere with activities, games and contests that include a climbing wall, bouncy house, dunk tank, duck race ($100 prize for the winner), giant inflatable slide, scenic chairlift rides, a pie-eating contest, a “Stars and Stripes” costume contest, and more. A full slate of live entertainment, including clowns, balloon artists, and a string of musical performances is also scheduled. A mouth-watering barbeque, cotton candy, caramel apples, snow cones, and soft pretzels also will be available, as well as a cash bar and beer tent for ages 21 and over. Please note that coolers and pets will not be permitted.
MOUNT WASHINGTON RESORT TO UNVEIL EXPANDED
MEETING & EVENT FACILITIES IN DECEMBER 2008
BRETTON WOODS, NH, June 03, 2008 – Mount Washington Resort in Bretton Woods, NH, will debut an additional 20,000 square feet of meeting and event space in December 2008. This is part of the Resort’s $50 million renovation which will further define the historic Grande Dame as a four-season resort destination. The expansion will bring the Resort’s total event space to 30,000 square feet with 18 unique meeting rooms, solidifying the property’s reputation as an ideal locale for business retreats, group events, meetings and weddings.
From intimate boardrooms to large ballrooms with panoramic views of the Presidential Mountain Range, including Mount Washington, the highest peak in the Northeast, the Resort’s expanded space has been designed to accommodate groups of up to 1,000 people at The Mount Washington Hotel, Bretton Arms Inn and The Lodge. The Hotel will introduce six new meeting rooms in December named after past Presidents - Washington, Jefferson, Reagan, Monroe, Madison and Adams. The new meeting rooms located on The Hotel’s patio level will range from 800 to 3,600 square feet and will reflect the same grand architecture, high ceilings and stately design as The Hotel’s existing rooms. In addition to the 900-foot wrap-around Veranda, which recently underwent an extensive restoration, the Presidential Garden, located adjacent to The Hotel, will offer a superb venue for outdoor affairs during the warmer-weather months as will the Jewell Terrace --- the new rooftop garden that extends from the Veranda and tops the new meeting facility.

Mount Washington Resort Announces Golf Course Openings for the Season
BRETTON WOODS, NH, May 7, 2008 – Mount Washington Resort is pleased to announce the season opening of Mount Washington Resort’s Mount Pleasant Golf Course on Saturday, May 10, 2008.
The 9-hole Mount Pleasant Course first opened in 1895, and has been host to generations of golfing enthusiasts from New Hampshire and beyond. Greats like U.S. Pro Golfer Gilbert Nicholls, Golf Course Designer Alex Findlay, British Golf Champions Harry Vardon and J.W. Taylor, and U.S. Open Golf Champion Willie Anderson have all played this historic par 35 course. The course was restored and upgraded in 1989 by Golf Course Architect Brian Silva with advice from world renowned golfers Gene Sarazen and Ken Venturi and now offers players a challenging round alongside the Ammonoosuc River with sensational views of The Mount Washington Hotel and the panorama of the Presidential Mountain Range.
Mount Washington Resort’s signature 18-hole Mount Washington Course, designed by the legendary Donald Ross, is currently being restored to the original plans of 1915 by Brian Silva, and is scheduled to reopen for play on August 1, 2008.
BRETTON WOODS CLOSES WITH ANOTHER RECORD SKI SEASON
NH’s Largest Ski Area Continues to Bring in the Numbers
BRETTON WOODS, NH, April 29, 2008 – Bretton Woods ski area closed for the 2007-08 season on Monday, April 21, 2008, offering free skiing for skiers and riders wearing patriotic attire. Alongside Patriot’s Day, Bretton Woods has much to celebrate, adding another record ski season to its continued growth. According to Chris Ellms, Bretton Woods Director of Ski Operations, “This marks the second record ski season in a row for Bretton Woods. Lift ticket sales were up 8% over the record established last season; and season pass sales for 2008-09 are off to a strong start, with the new Threedom Pass having been launched in early March.” The Threedom Pass, which includes skiing at three of New Hampshire’s top family-oriented resorts, includes Bretton Woods for the first time ever, and is on sale at an introductory rate until May 31st, 2008. The Threedom Pass also includes skiing at Cranmore and Waterville Valley ski areas.

BRETTON WOODS, NH, April 14, 2008 – In honor of Patriot’s Day, Bretton Woods is extending it’s closing date and offering free spring skiing on Monday, April 21, 2008. On that day only, skiers and riders donning patriotic attire, from three-cornered hats to stars and stripes costumes, will be treated to a fabulous day of spring skiing at New Hampshire’s largest ski area for free. April 21st, 2008, will be the final day of this skiing and riding season at Mount Washington Resort’s Bretton Woods, which is proud to be completing its second record-breaking season in a row.
Another option for Patriot’s Day Celebration participants is to purchase the new 2008-09 Threedom Pass on April 21, 2008. Not only will purchasers ski for free on Patriot’s Day, but, in addition, $50 per Threedom Pass sold on that day will be donated to the “Wounded Warrior Project” in honor of all service men and women. The Wounded Warrior Project is a non-profit organization that seeks to assist those men and women of our armed forces . . .

BRETTON WOODS, NH, April 11, 2008 – With a history spanning over 100 years, and the countless tales that have unfolded throughout its vast interior of guest rooms, corridors, and ballrooms, it was only a matter of time before The Mount Washington Hotel became a hunting ground for “TAPS”, i.e. The Atlantic Paranormal Society. TAPS is a group of paranormal investigators who travel across the country to sites that have ghost stories surrounding them. Their exploits are filmed and have become the popular Sci-Fi TV Channel series Ghost Hunters, currently in its fourth season. The next Ghost Hunters episode, entitled “Ghostly Conversations”, features The Mount Washington Hotel, and is scheduled to air Wednesday, April 16th, 2008, at 9:00 pm and 11:00 pm (Eastern time).
BRETTON WOODS ADAPTIVE PROGRAM TO HOST DISABLED VETERANS
APPRECIATION CELEBRATION WEEKEND MARCH 14-16th, 2008
BRETTON WOODS, NH, Feb. 29, 2008 – Bretton Woods Adaptive, Inc. welcomes disabled service men and women to participate in the 2008 Disabled Veterans Appreciation Celebration March 14-16th, 2008, hosted at Bretton Woods. The event will offer ski and snowboard instruction and assistance to physically challenged veterans. Participation is open to those with spinal cord injuries, orthopedic amputation, visual impairments, neurological problems and other disabilities.
Participants will work with adaptive ski and snowboard instructors and be fitted with ski, snowboard and adaptive skiing/riding equipment such as outriggers, sit-skis and other adaptive equipment as may be necessary. BRETTON WOODS, NH, Feb. 4, 2008 – On Sunday, January 27, 2008, Mount Washington Resort, in its continued effort to support The North Country Boys and Girls Club, hosted a day of free skiing to Boys & Girls Club members throughout New Hampshire. Bretton Woods ski area provided complimetary lift tickets, rental equipment and lessons to about 100 youngsters, and their chaperones.
“This is another example of how much Mount Washington Resort’s CEO, Pat Corso, cares about and supports the efforts of Boys & Girls Clubs,” said Barbara Langworthy, President of The Boys and Girls Club of the North Country, and event organizer. “We thank him, and the Bretton Woods staff, including Steve DeBenedictis and his ski school staff, the ticket office staff, and the staff in the rental shop, for their incredible patience, cheerfulness and hard work.” Barbara Langworthy has been involved with the Club since its inception.
The Mount Washington Hotel also benefits the Club each fall by donating a portion of the proceeds from it’s Annual Fall Food and Wine Festival to the Club. This fall the Food and Wine Festival raised over $5,000 for the Club. The next Fall Food and Wine Festival is scheduled for the weekend of November 7-8, 2008.

Chef Edward Swetz of Mount Washington Resort, along with the Executive Chefs from New Hampshire’s three other historic hotels, including Dan Dumont of Wentworth by the Sea, Juho Lee of The Mountain View Grand, and Larry Johnson of The Balsams, traveled to New York City on Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2007, in order to prepare and host a holiday dinner at the James Beard House on Wednesday, Dec. 13th, featuring regional New Hampshire cuisine . BRETTON WOODS NORDIC CENTER IS OPEN FOR THANKSGIVING
BRETTON WOODS, NH, November 21, 2007 – Bretton Woods Nordic Center, part of Mountain Washington Resort, is open with a base depth of 4-8” and over 20 kilometers of skiing, with 10.3 km of track and skate groomed terrain. The Nordic Center opened on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007, as a result of an 8-12” snowstorm that blanketed the entire Mount Washington Resort in white. According to Peter Smith, Director of Bretton Woods Nordic Center, "Skier feedback was phenomenal! People were happy to have the chance to get out so early, and the weather on opening weekend was just great!" Cross country skiers drove from Maine, Vermont, and up from Massachusetts to get their first Nordic tracks of the 2007-08 season! Bretton Woods is the only Nordic Center open in New England at this time.
SNOW STORM BLASTS BRETTON WOODS WITH A FOOT OF NEW SNOW
ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 16TH - JUST IN TIME FOR THANKSGIVING
BRETTON WOODS, NH, November 16, 2007 – Mount Washington Resort has been turned into a winter wonderland, while regions further south have received rain. Bretton Woods, part of Mountain Washington Resort, has received 8-12” of natural snow today, with snow flurries continuing this afternoon. According to Chris Ellms, Director of Mountain Operations at Bretton Woods, there was a loss of power for about three hours this afternoon, but power has been fully restored to the Resort and the snowmaking guns are once again at work, adding to the bountiful natural snowfall. At the alpine area, skiers and riders can expect to be skiing from the summit, with three lifts and at least ten trails by the end of the weekend. The Bretton Woods Nordic Center will open tomorrow, on Saturday, with three kilometers of skate groomed terrain, as well as plenty of backcountry opportunities.

BRETTON WOODS, NH, November 9, 2007 – Bretton Woods, part of Mountain Washington Resort, will open for the skiing and riding season beginning Saturday, November 10th, 2007, offering the first skiing in the State of NH for the 2007-08 season. “We’ve been having snow flurries this week here at Bretton Woods, and we’ve been snowmaking at every opportunity” according to Chris Ellms, Director of Ski Operations for the Resort. The plan is to start things off with the Learning Center quad with skiing on Rosebrook Lane for those who are ready to get their legs warmed up for the season. Terrain park elements, including two rails and a fun box will be set up for early-season jibbing. Lift tickets for the Learning Center quad are free.
AUTHOR MARK OKRANT TO RELEASE LATEST MYSTERY NOVEL

Bretton Woods, NH October 31, 2007 – Mark Okrant, a Professor at Plymouth State University is slated to release his latest novel, I Knew You When (Oak Manor Publishing, 2008), at Mount Washington Resort in Bretton Woods, N.H., on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, from 8:30 to 9:30 pm. Okrant will make a presentation in the Conservatory on the main level of the Hotel, then sign copies of his new book. Okrant is Professor of Geography and Tourism Development and Director of the Institute for New Hampshire Studies at Plymouth State University. He is also an author. In this mystery series, Okrant’s main character, Kary Turnell is a university professor who is drawn into investigations at historic resort hotels. I Knew You When is the second book of this series. The story begins when a friend’s body is found . . .
BRETTON WOODS FIRES UP THE SNOW GUNS FOR THE SEASON
BRETTON WOODS, NH, October 29, 2007 – As of this morning, Bretton Woods, part of Mountain Washington Resort, has fired up its snowmaking guns and is busy laying down a good base for the approaching ski season. There is already over a foot of snow at the Top o’Quad Restaurant, according to Chris Ellms, Director of Ski Operations for the Resort. “We want to get folks out on the snow just as soon as we can, so we intend to take full advantage of our high elevation,” says Ellms. Bretton Woods has a base elevation of 1,600 feet, and that typically translates into cooler temperatures, and allows aggressive snowmaking. “You can have the most powerful snowmaking system on the planet, but you can’t use it unless you have cold enough temperatures,” remarks Ellms.

Meet at the Nordic Center at 10 am, ready to take on the Beaver Pond Trail for starters. Trail maintenance will involve clearing brush, so be sure to dress accordingly, wear sturdy shoes and bring good working gloves! Morning refreshment provided, please bring your lunch.
